UPT Children Support Program

Teacher Marc Stein with donations from UPT congregations

Second-grade teacher Marc Stein, School #3, with supplies donated by UPT congregations. He hasn't decided where he will take the children on a field trip with the money gift, probably some place especially related to science and the STEM program.

UPT Churches have connections with a number of programs that help children, for instance:

They all have needs! Money is always scarce, and classroom teachers and program leaders routinely reach into their own pockets to stretch the budget. Parents are hard strapped too, often holding down 2 or 3 jobs just to cover food and rent.

Inspired by the 2013 Poverty Report issued by the Rochester Area Community Foundation, UPT churches are collecting supplies for distribution to classrooms and programs.

During the 2014-15 school year,we funded field trips for 15 classrooms of children at Schools #3 and #35.

As a continuous reminder, and to spread out donations throughout the year, liaisons familiar with the particular schools' and programs' details and needs complied a list of suggestions. Of course donations of whichever items will be welcomed anytime. Suggestions are:

Three people with check

Rodney Moore, principal of No.3 School, gratefully accepts a UPT donation from Deanna Tiefenthal and Elaine Johnson, which helped send all K-8 students on a field trip to the Genesee Country Museum

In September 2014 this project distributed school supplies to:

  • Cameron Community Ministries
  • The Corner Place
  • Schools #3 and #35
  • Trinity Emmanuel Friday Nights
  • Young Mothers Interim Health

In addition, we gathered about $2400 for school field trips ($1600 of that from an existing fund at Downtown Presbyterian).

Any donation checks should be made payable to the fiscal agent, Third Presbyterian Church, with "UPT School Support" noted on the memo line of the check. Donations are tax deductible depending on the donor's personal tax situation.
