Help Host RAIHN Families @ Downtown

Have you wanted to sample the RAIHN program? Downtown welcomes volunteers from its UPT sister congregations when it hosts in its building families who are temporarily without a home. RAIHN = Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network.

Many of the same Downtown Presbyterian volunteers fill the slots, so the congregation decided to reach out to its UPT network. Your help is greatly welcomed. Typical tasks include:

  • Preparing food: in coordination with DPC RAIHN leaders, prepare and deliver selected food for dinner
  • Evening hosts: usually about 4:30 – 8:30, provide hospitality, eat with guests, help clean after dinner
  • Overnight hosts: stay overnight, ca. 8:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. There's usually little activity. Set out breakfast food/beverages. Assure guests are awake in time for breakfast and the RAIHN bus to the day center

If you're new to RAIHN, you'd be paired with someone who's familiar with the routine and Downtown's building. New volunteers are asked to attend a RAIHN training session at some point with the coordinator for the RAIHN program in our city.
