Introducing Homeowner Michell Diggs

Michelle Diggs

Michelle Diggs
Homeowner at 644 Brown Street

Michelle Diggs is about to become a first-time homeowner of the house with which UPT is connected. She's a single, working mom currently living in Rochester's northeast quadrant. Of her seven children and 15 "grands," her younger daughter and one grand-baby are still at home.

She's is a member of Free Deliverance Church of God in Christ, which is located at St. Paul Street and Clifford Avenue. She met with our reporter outside her church and agreed that this information could be added to the UPT web site.

Michelle is a caregiver working through Companion Care of Rochester. She works with traumatic brain injury patients and seniors in independent living facilities.

Like other homeowners with Flower City Habitat for Humanity, Michelle attended an information meeting and completed an application. She was approved after review with Habitat's Family Selection Committee and Leadership Council. Selection is based on level of need, willingness to become partners in the program, and their ability to repay the no-interest mortgage. She's working to complete her 450 hours volunteering to build Habitat houses.

She says, "I thank everybody who's helped out with me. I thank you to the bottom of my heart. Thank you."

We agreed to now and forever avoid referring to "Michelle's new digs."
